It's Like A Train Wreck!

You just can't help but read the damn thing. Rachel Lucas' post today caused another slam-my-head-in-the-door moment. Oh, the poor abortion industry in Canada, whatever will they do? How will they stay open if a few of those "...nine out of ten women given a diagnosis of Down syndrome..." decide to - brace yourself for the unthinkable - keep the baby?

Is this really the mindset of ob/gyns in Canada? In any country? That it's a better thing to abort babies given a diagnosis of Downs Syndrome? Better for whom? I know I'll get a lot of strong responses to this, possibly in both directions, but I had to get that off my chest.

I hope that is not the mindset of the society of OBGYN's in Canada, or anywhere. Sounds to me like a personal opinion by one man in a high position. I didnt see anywhere that said he speaks for the rest of his society. I guess even people in high positions can have opinions, even if they do not agree with ours. As for is it better or not, that is really up to each individual woman. We can and should only make choices for ourselves and not others, that is my honest opinion. I think it is a bad choice for him to speak out because of his high position, but he is entitled to voice his opinion none the less.

My husband and I never got an amnio this pregnancy we decided that even if there were something wrong with our baby, god forbid. We wouldn't abort it or do anything in that respect anyway so why get the test in the first place (other than to prepare for the worst). I do however understand why a lot of people would choose the later route and I do agree that they are entitled to said decision, although my stance of abortion is very adverse. Have you ever seen or experienced first hand the number of downes children in foster care and adoption. It is staggering, and that's not to say that the parent should keep those children but it isn't a n option for many. Some just can't bare that burden (money wise and mentally) and until we have all been in that situation we really can't say exactly what we would do either.
